In Washington State, general contractors must register with the Department of Labor and Industries.  Although applicants are not required to take any examination or document experience for the general contractor license, contractors are required to carry $50,000 of property damage insurance and $200,000 of public liability coverage and post a cash deposit or license bond of $12,000, and is required to pass the OSHA exam.
